I love me a theme; whether it’s a holiday, a big event or a self-declared celebration – like “it’s Wednesday, let’s celebrate pancakes!” So with Valentine’s Day in three short days, obviously I had to build an outfit for the occasion. Sure, black is always appropriate and ladies tend toward sexy for a night out on V-Day. But, I like red…and practicality. I originally purchased this dress for a work holiday party and paired it with tights, black booties and a high bun – it was fun, festive and cozy.
Color me happy when I realized this dress could be repurposed from Christmas to Valentine’s Day. This time around it was okay to up the sultry-factor: no tights, a strapy sandal and tousled hair. The cut and fabric (wool) of the dress read conservative, but the length and gold zippers hint at risqué. Not to mention the sheer comfortability of the fit (i.e. I can eat as much as I want) and the weight of the fabric will keep me warm as the evening progresses and temperatures drop, both of which appeal to my sensibility.
Enjoy this special day, celebrate the ones you love and definitely, definitely use it as an excuse to be over-the-top.
